In 2020, WIIS Brussels launched a series of consultations on the evolving concept of security. Throughout this process, we have learned that it was less important to define exactly “what” we were exploring through security, than it was to focus on “how” to approach security as members of wider communities. We came to appreciate each other’s perspectives without judgement, but with heightened sensitivity to address diverse security challenges as perceived.
During the next WIIS Brussels Consultation, we will reflect on what we have learned through this process. We shared our thoughts on both the first and second year of consultations through our 2021 article and our recent piece just published on the WIIS website. We want to hear your own reflections and together continue to explore what ‘security’ means to us personally; what role communities play in shaping a secure environment for us; and start thinking about how to conceptually approach security today at the international level.
WIIS Brussels President, Isabelle Francois, and Steering Committee member, Naďa Kovalčíková, will share reflections from last year’s Consultations with women from Yemen, Iraq, Libya and Ukraine to kick start the conversation with WIIS Brussels members, and welcome views on the next steps in this home grown process.
